The fountain....

Quotations of the day:
"Fella I once knew in El Paso, one day he took all his clothes off and jumped in a mess of cactus.
I asked him the same question, why?
He said it seemed to be a good idea at the time.
" VIN [Steve Mc Queen] in The Magnificent Seven [1960].

Reminds me of that fella back home who fell off a ten-story building. As he was falling, people on each floor kept hearing him say, "So far, so good. So far, so good."
VIN [Steve Mc Queen] in The Magnificent Seven [1960].

USA - Democrats in da house
The democrats have won the latest election, what will change.... not much ... there will probably be more enquiry, the president will need to argue and defend more his policy... Rumsfeld already resigned... Eric Leser a journalist from Le Monde answers some of these questions in this chat[FR].
The war in Iraq will probably continue, the USA will lower their objectives... and Halliburton will gain less money ( or will it ? )

Meanwhile Olympia, Walsh is questioning through history, our emotional dependance on marriage in Too close to comfort (NY Times). Seems the marriage has taken more and more importance in the relationship ( in the last 50 years ) and other relationships have declined ( for example the number of people you discussed meaningful matters).

The Fountain
Darren Arronofsky [Pi, Requiem for a Dream]is due to release his new movie: The Fountain.
The New York Times ask eleven artists to give their view of the movie in picture.

The Eleven pictures.

Mille Trillion de mille sabords.....

Word curiosity, the word trillion did not have the same meaning in French, English or American...

Number`American''British'
1E12trillionbillion
1E15quadrillionthousand billion
1E18quintilliontrillion

See what the (in french) what the proofreders of the newspaper "Le Monde" think about that : ca chauffe dans la calculette/.
Things learned
  • Parker Lewis is back, to kick ET ass in Stargate SG1... at least it's the same actor: Corin Nemec
Is this an achievement of coolness ?
  • No more fish in 2048, according to a study published in Science, because of desctructive fishery (fish and habitat).
Improving Rhum
The basic recipe to improve Rhum by mixing it with bananas.
You need 1L of white rum (I prefer brown) and 4 bananas, cut the bananas (after removing the skin) in bits of 1cm. Put them in a frying pan with butter and sugar, and heat them (caramelization), and put them in the rum. Let the mix macerate for 2 months.

Another recipe use Carambar:
1L of Rum and 6 carambars. Put the carambar in the rum, add some brown sugar ( 20CL), let it for 8 to 10 days, shake the mix everyday.
Songs of the month
  • Damien Rice - 9 Crimes and Rootless Tree (Album: "9" Atlantic)
  • The Good The Bad And The Queen – Herculean (Parlophone)
  • Nero – Autopsy
  • Thom Yorke – Analyse (XL)
  • Scott Matthews - Dream Song (Album: "Passing Stranger" SanRemo)
  • CSS - Let's make love
  • Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks
  • Ray Lamontagne - Let Me Stay

  • The Killers - When You were young and Bones (Album: "Sam's Town" Island Records)

Gare au Jaguar....

# Joey Starr (ex-NTM) is releasing a new album... and soon the album is forbidden from selling.
The cause an unauthorized cover [mp3] of a G.Brassens song ("Gare au Gorille").
Info from:

# More news about Wii in the New York Times. Nintendo is clearly differentiating itself from its competitors (Sony and Microsoft) targeting new customers (the 50+), and enhancing new gaming experience.....wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

# And back to French...

The Good The Bad and the Queen

assembleBack to more regular posts.

Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz...) has started a new adventure or story with:
The Good, the Bad and the Queen.
I've discovered it thanks to Tom Dunne's Pet Sound show on today FM, with their first single Herculean.
And also Zane Lowe (BBC1).
You can listen (until the 2 november 2006), the show they gave for BBC: here. Brilliant.

There is loads of good stuff on BBC electroprom website, from Paul Weller to the Magic Numbers.

In a world where with an IPOD, you can have litteraly months of music in your pockets... does it make sense the old question: which cd would you bring on a island ? My answer would be something on this left side.

Note : Lego are becoming greater and greater.

A mystery [FR]
